The Airbus A330-200 carrying 228 people went silent Monday after departing Rio de Janeiro for an 11-hour flight to Paris officials said. French officials said they sent military reconnaissance planes from Senegal in West Africa to check reports from a Brazilian civilian airliner pilot that saw “orange dots” which could have been fiery wreckage on the ocean surface along the French plane’s possible flight path The New York Times reported. French military spokesman Christophe Prazuck told the BBC it was “very unlikely” anyone survived the crash. Details of what may have happened before the aircraft carrying 216 passengers and 12 crew members disappeared from radar have begun to emerge CNN reported Tuesday.

Nigeria penultimate weekend conceded the leadership of the 16-country Region II Confederation of Africa Athletics to Senegal. Senegal that did not parade the cream of her star athletes at the event as Nigeria had done still managed to win the three-day championship with ten gold six silver and seven bronze medals. Nigeria ended up in the second position with nine gold ten silver and four bronze medals. Burkina Faso with four gold five silver and six bronze medals were third. But newly elected president of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Chief Solomon gba who facilitated the trip when all hopes of attending was fading insisted that there was nothing to be ashamed of losing the title to Senegal.

Delta postpones flights to Kenya Liberia

The airline which announced in November 2008 its plans to fly from Atlanta to Nairobi via Dakar Senegal and Atlanta to Monrovia via Sal Island Cape Verde said Tuesday that it was working on re-accommodating affected passengers on partner airlines that offer connecting service to those destinations. Atlanta-based Delta had said the new service to Kenya would have been effective Tuesday and the new service to Liberia would have been effective June 8.
