According to the Embassy General Ward will hold talks with Senegalese military authorities on various issues regarding bilateral cooperation maritime security and the fight against drug trafficking. He will also address a press conference on the military and security cooperation between the US and Africa the fight against terrorism and peacekeeping operations. General Ward became AFRICM’s first commander since formation on 1 ctober 2007. AFRICM was set up to partner the 53 African states in areas of security and stability.

Mr Rifkin who will deliver a lecture on 29 June at the ?Méridien-Président? on the topic: ?Long-lasting development and the 3rd industrial revolution? is ranked by ?The National Journal? among the ?150 personalities who have a lot influence on American government decisions?. A theoretician of ?Jobless society’? he is the author of 17 works which deal with the impact of the evolution of science and technology on the economy labour society and environment including ?The European dream? ?The age of access: The truth on new economy? ‘The end of Work?. Publications by Mr Rifkin which are translated into about 30 languages are used in universities companies and governmental organizations across the world. Jeremy Rifkin is presently an adviser to the European Commission the European Parliament and several heads of state and governments including the Spanish Prime minister José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel on issues linked to the economy climatic change and energy security.

Biofuels Information Plan Launched in West Africa

The environmental group Wetlands International has joined forces with the organization Action Aid and 30 Senegal-based groups to ensure that communities in West Africa are aware of the impact of biofuel development programs. The initiative will inform rural and urban communities about the issues surrounding biofuels including food security energy supply and environmental sustainability. Alex Kaat of Wetlands International is one of those behind the program. He says local communities are not always given enough information about the advantages and disadvantages of biofuels. “The relationship between biofuel production and the livelihoods of communities is quite complex.
