Mauritania: Senegal makes a new proposal to end the crisis

"The various parties have received a copy of this initiative they have promised to study it and respond before Tuesday when a meeting of all parties is planned the same source added. The content of the new proposal announced Friday in Dakar but finally sent to the parties that Saturday evening has not been specified. According to sources close to the case it is part of solutions to end the crisis so far advanced in Dakar with support from the African Union and the United Nations. The new version still provides a postponement of the presidential election boycotted by opponents of the coup of 6 August 2008 and the establishment of a transitional government and an electoral commission "consensual" according to these sources.

For a woman to even be on the ballot here — much less lead her party’s roster — is a step forward in their efforts. Women took to the streets to campaign in the latest round of local elections. Elderly women blew whistles and waved posters while members of the younger generation danced hugged and called out to onlookers. They were demonstrating for Magatte Wade a 45-year-old single mother who works for a professional association that supports microfinance efforts and who ran for mayor of Parcelles Assanies a chaotic Dakar suburb whose population has exploded in the past generation.

“n Thursday 28 May 2009 the ICJ. will give its order on the request for the indication of provisional measures submitted by Belgium” said a statement from the International Court of Justice based in The Hague.
