Williams a Macomb native who graduated from Macomb High Schoolin 2001 has been living in the West African country for the pastsix months along with her husband Jonathan Dunnill. She is one ofthree 2001 MHS grads that have spent significant time living inWest Africa during the past year. Williams who does volunteer work for a human rights groupcalled Tostan said assimilating to the way of life in Senegal wasa challenge. “When I first got here I was extremely overwhelmed with tryingto figure out this system” Williams said.

Delegates were offered the chance to ride quad-bikes while others tried sand-painting ‘djembe’ drumming and Senegalese games. “We gave them the next day at leisure before the gala dinner which was held at the Bandia Nature Reserve” says Joris. Dozens of local musicians acrobats and performers provided entertainment while a fashion show featured clothes inspired by Senegal’s natural world. The final day saw participants driven back to Dakar where they were transferred to the nearby island of Goree. The visit included an exploration of the island’s role in the slave trade. After a farewell from a gospel troupe participants caught overnight flights home. VERDICT: The programme was named the Most utstanding Travel Incentive at the 2008 SITE Crystal Awards.

As I began to explain my project to him which involved setting up manufacturing plants in Senegal he kept encouraging me to buy crafts from local artisans rather than setting up manufacturing plants. Despite the fact that he had become wealthy through a capitalist world and lived a comfortable lifestyle that depended on tens of thousands of factories around the world his vision of helping the poor was strictly limited to microfinance and local crafts. My vision of manufacturing in Africa was frankly repulsive to him. The do-gooders of the world love to campaign on behalf of foreign aid to help the poor and more recently they have discovered and come to love microfinance giving small loans to women around the world.

"The various parties have received a copy of this initiative they have promised to study it and respond before Tuesday when a meeting of all parties is planned the same source added. The content of the new proposal announced Friday in Dakar but finally sent to the parties that Saturday evening has not been specified. According to sources close to the case it is part of solutions to end the crisis so far advanced in Dakar with support from the African Union and the United Nations. The new version still provides a postponement of the presidential election boycotted by opponents of the coup of 6 August 2008 and the establishment of a transitional government and an electoral commission "consensual" according to these sources.
