The alternative fuel has just gone on sale in the markets of northern Senegal. But unlike it’s darker cousin green charcoal is efficiently produced burns cleanly and is made from renewable local materials.

Philippine tanker released by pirates

The MT Stolt Strength with a crew of 23 was captured in November in the Gulf of Aden. The tanker was en route from Senegal to India at the time. The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs did not say whether the pirates received a ransom for the vessel CNN reported. About 85 Filipinos remain in the hands of Somali pirates. Three of them who were members of the Belgian-owned vessel Pompeii have been prisoners for about a year.

The workshop is being organised in Saly Portudal (80 from the capital Dakar) to enable participants to share experiences in the area of micro financing according to a statement from the organisers. It said the workshop would bring together representatives of employers associations micro finance union representatives and officials of the ministry of civil service employment and professional organizations. It will enable employees to participate in developing and setting the rules governing relations with their employers among other benefits. The professional association of MFIs includes MFIs operating in Senegal as well as savings and credit organizations.
