MNUC deplores the loss of another blue helmet

Moundor Senghor who was 31 years of age arrived in the DRC in January 2007 after being on mission for the UN in the Ivory Coast. He leaves behind a wife and two children. In his funeral praise Mr. Swing saluted “the generosity of Senegal which contributes largely to peacekeeping missions and in particular to MNUC. ” MNUC force commander General Babacar Gaye who hails from Senegal underlined “the brilliant career” of Moundor Senghor. MNUC’s 17000 plus blue helmets are stationed around the Democratic Republic of Congo with over 80% are deployed in the east of the country. As part of their mandate to keep the peace they ensure the protection of civilian populations they contribute to the security of certain cities in particular the town of Goma in North Kivu they build basic infrastructure to assist needy populations and they give logistical support to the DRC Armed Forces (FARDC) during military operations… In his funeral praise Mr. Swing saluted “the generosity of Senegal which contributes largely to peacekeeping missions and in particular to MNUC. ” MNUC force commander General Babacar Gaye who hails from Senegal underlined “the brilliant career” of Moundor Senghor.
