France’s Sarkozy in Senegal to set out new Africa policy
Turkish Press – Jul 26, 2007
Sarkozy who was welcomed on arrival by Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade was expected to detail his new plans at a public lecture he is to deliver at the country’s leading University of Cheikh Anta Diop. The visit marked his first trip to sub-Saharan Africa since taking office in May. In an interview with the pro-government Senegalese daily Le Soleil Sarkozy said he intended to “modernise” ties with the African continent and “get rid of the old demons cronyism paternalism and aid dependence”. More aid must imply “more efficiency” on both sides he argued in a separate interview with Senegal’s private daily Wal Fadjiri.
