“Iran and Senegal enjoy appropriate and growing trend of bilateral relations. Further expansion of ties will be in favor of Muslims and the Islamic world” IRNA quoted Shahroudi as saying in a meeting with Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade. “Tehran believes that Islamic countries should promote their ties to help settle ongoing problems” he added. “The Islamic world will face a hopeful future in line with paying attention to Islam and reinforcing vigilance by Muslims against conspiracies of enemies” added Shahroudi.

The Senegalese Premier says the expansion of Tehran-Dakar ties would remove the factors that contribute to provoking discord among Muslims. In a meeting with the visiting Iranian Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi Cheikh Hadjibou Soumaré praised Iran’s efforts to defend oppressed nations Fars News Agency reported. He welcomed the proposal of the Iranian official to form two Islamic organizations to bring Muslims together and said Senegal is ready for full cooperation with Iran in this regard. Ayatollah Shahroudi had earlier proposed to establish a union and a judicial council for Muslim countries. Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Shahroudi for his part said that Iran considers it a responsibility to bolster its relations with Muslim states and make use of their potentials.

Elsewhere he noted the role of Muslim scholars in the spread and prevalence of religion and said “Today’s world is in need of spirituality and religious ties can be strengthened due to the same reason. “For his part the Senegalese president voiced pleasure in Shahroudi’s visit to his country and called for the bolstering of his country’s cooperation with Iran and use of Iran’s experiences in economic cultural and political areas.

Bio-fuel new revolution in Africa

South Africa began last July to construct Africa’s first production plant for ethanol which is made from the sugars found in grains. The first barrels of the bio-fuel should start flowing by the end of this year and seven similar factories are expected to be up and running by 2010. Senegal has launched an experiment on colza plantations to produce bio-diesel and distillation is under way by a Senegalese sugar firm to produce bio-ethanol. To show how serious Senegal is Wade has created a new ministry entirely devoted to bio-fuels and renewable energies. The west African country also wants bio-fuels to take off because it does not produce crude oil and relies heavily on diesel for generating electricity… The first barrels of the bio-fuel should start flowing by the end of this year and seven similar factories are expected to be up and running by 2010.
