According to Bouet this “imbalance” unavoidably leads to an adjustment for Senegal which is not the USA to withstand chronic trade deficits. According to the negotiations schedule the implementation of the EPAs which is slated for 1st January 2008 leads to the supplementary consequence of “losing tariff revenues that form an important part of the country’s tax income” said Bouet… “Substantial risks particularly exist for Senegal which opens its borders to European products mostly without precautions” Antoine Bouet a researcher at the Washington-based International food policy research institute (IFPRI) told reporters Thursday during a briefing.
