Jennifer Bain Senegal-born Amidou Goudiaby has brought his West African food to Toronto. He launched the 40-seat Téranga African Bar Restaurant on St. Patrick’s Day in Kensington Market around the corner from the African art store he has been running for two years. Téranga means hospitality and Goudiaby says Senegal is known for it. Tostan’s deputy-manager Malick Diagne said in an interview with APA that “time is needed to solve the difficult issue of beggars (students from coranic schools) because we need to first educate the Senegalese who are too superstitious and believers of the virtues of helping beggars”. The great religious families who slammed this form of exploitation expressed satisfaction over Tostan’s actions and readiness to give their backing for “Islam is against child exploitation” the religious officials said. Malick Diagne said Tostan’s approach is a global strategic which consists in urging the government populations and NGs working for children’s rights to unite their efforts in a bid to find a final solution to the problem.

Stars will host Senegal on June 2 in a Group Seven qualifying return leg match. The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Information fficer Florian Kaijage said yesterday that Nigerian Football Association (NFA) had already confirmed the friendly. Kaijage said following the NFA decision TFF is now making arrangements with Libya who had also confirmed to play with Stars in a friendly match on the same date to reschedule their match. He said in this case TFF had requested the Libyan Football Association to reschedule the match to a different date.

The Congress which took place in Dakar the capital of Senegal was attended by 50 of the 53 IAAF Member Federations representing Africa and Congress unanimously supported the resolution of the CAA Council to support Lamine Diack in his quest for re-election as IAAF President at the next Congress in saka Japan. During the first day?s sessions it was agreed that the statutes of the CAA would be amended so that the President of the CAA would now automatically gain a place on the IAAF Council as Area Representative for Africa. The CAA also agreed that 1 of the five vice-Presidents should be a woman. Although there had been a number of candidates for the various positions on the morning of the elections it was announced that in the interests of African Unity all the official positions would be approved in a consensual manner without the need for elections. IDB to join Roll Back Malaria

“We have met here in Geneva with an IDB delegation which expressed their willingness to join the fight against malaria. The plan now is for the IDB to officially become a member of the Partnership" she said in a telephone interview with PANA. Speaking on the celebration of the Africa Malaria Day Seck a former Health Minister of Senegal said that IDB membership of the Roll Bank Malaria Partnership would strengthen international mobilisation against the disease. “The IDB’s wish to join the Partnership is an important step in strengthening international mobilisation against the disease. For the first time we raised enough funds in 2006 to have a real impact on the disease" she added. n April 12 the IDB concluded an agreement in Paris with the International Drug Purchase Facility (UNITAID) for the supply of low cost malaria drugs to Burkina Faso Chad Gambia Guinea-Bissau Mali Mauritania Niger Senegal and Sudan. The agreement signed by IDB president Ahmad Mohamed Ali and the UNITAID board chairman French health minister Philippe Douste-Blazy provides for the disbursement of 20 million U.
